The Importance of Blogging for Salon Owners

If your salon doesn't have a business blog, you could be losing out on valuable customers. By having a business blog, you ensure that your salon ranks high on search engine results pages. The higher your website ranks, the more likely that potential customers will click on your site and end up visiting your salon, or purchasing goods from your online store.

There's a ton of conflicting advice from the blogging community regarding how often your salon should be posting. People running a personal blog often aren't running a business, but you are. The key to blogging is to blog consistently. Four posts in four weeks and then nothing for months afterward is a big waste of time. Once a month is a sound frequency for a salon blog as it ensures you stay in the mind of customers, while also attracting new customers.

Your blog needs to bring value to its visitors. If they take the time to read your blog and are left thinking, " what was in that for me?” The chances are they won't read the next thing that you post. Ensure that your posts are packed to the brim with value, they don't want to learn about how great you are or how great you think your salon is, nor do they want to be bombarded with products. They want something that benefits them.  It can be anything from a simple "how-to" guide to a list of hot styles. Another top tip is to pay close attention to local media stories and see if there's anything that you can take from them to link back to your business. Of course, promotion is the eventual goal, but it must be dealt with subtly, as not to alienate potential customers.

Happy blogging.
